Like Vanilla Ice said, “See my version goes ding ding ding da-ding ding tat, its completely different.” Harmonix, the creators of Rock Band, might be singing the same tune to Konami with Konami’s recent claim of patent infringement in the Rock Band videogame. Konami is suing Harmonix, Viacom, and MTV Networks – fuck it lets go after the Pope too. I think if Viacom sneezes they’ll own Konami. Either way Konami is seeking cash compensation and an order to block Viacom and Harmonix from using the peripherals included in the game. Patents were issued to the publisher back in 2002 and 2003 and cover simulated musical instruments and a “musical-rhythm matching game”.  Konami has its own Guitar Freaks series which first appeared in arcades in ’99. Question is will this effect EA’s decision to push a sequel to Rock Band which is due for release in September? [gamesindustry.biz]
